Identity plays a huge role in our lives. Almost every person in the world has a different identity whether you’re a moody person, or a friendly person. The identity of a person can change during different phases of a person’s life. Many other things such as the Internet can also change a person’s identity. Computer games can change how a person looks at the world. Social networking can make an identity of a person calmer and happier because if you live far away from someone that you know and/or care about, you can easily talk to them and know how they are doing on regular bases. The identity of a person can sometimes be told by the first impression. Identity is one of the factors that makes almost every single person in the world a different person.
Social networking is one of the most popular things that people all around the world are using. The most popular sites that people use for Social Networking are MySpace and Facebook. These sites are used to stay in contact with friends and family. Some people also use social networking to meet new people whether they are looking for a new relationship or just simply new friends. Just these two sites (Facebook and MySpace) have over 180 million registered accounts. One of the threats about social networking is that almost anyone can sign up as a fake person. Some people make fake accounts for the simple fact of not being comfortable with putting their personal information and picture on a website, and others want to experience what it would feel like being another person for a day. But one of the biggest threats about making fake accounts is people who would like to meet younger individuals.
There are a couple of common identities that people choose from. The most common one that people choose is trying to be funny. Some people go off the limits of being funny and others do it just right. The other common one that people choose is being tough. Now a days everything teenagers care about is how strong an individual is or how built they are (mostly based on men). Common identities are what people try to aim for just to get their popularity up and look good in front of others. Although the identity of a person is usually the same, the identity of a person might change once in a while. Some people might end up waking up in a bad mood. Others might wake up with a better mood then usual. Some people might have a bad mood because someone in their family has died. Others might have a bad mood because they have family problems or got in a fight with a friend. People might also be in a good mood because they bought something that they’ve always wanted. Not all people have the same identity all the time.
Personal identity deals with questions about us. Many of these questions are questions that can not be answered and questions that a person will ask themselves at some point in their lives: What am I? What will happen to me when I die? Is there life after death? I myself don’t have a specific identity. Some days I’m mad some days I’m not and other days I’m happy as can be. I guess it all depends on how I sleep ☺. I’m not a type of person that has a different identity with other people nor have a different identity when I’m somewhere else. I have the same identity around everyone that I meet and talk too. The identity about me that I like the most is that I’m not shy. If I were to talk to a random person and a person I knew for years, I’d probably end up talking to both of them the same way. Although people usually have the same identity around you, most people choose to have a different identity around others. I don’t think it’s a good thing because you’re not being yourself around others. In my opinion, people should always act like themselves around others. Unless of course you’re applying for a job, then you might want to act a little different so you look professinal.
A lot of people aren’t comfortable with their identities. One of the most common reasons that make people not comfortable with their identity is because others don’t like it. Popularity plays a huge role in a person’s identity. About %90 of people choose their identity based on others. Factors such as peer pressure, and media can really affect ones identity. I think that people shouldn’t listen to what others have to say and stay the way they are. One of the biggest tips in life is to just be you and not to let others opinions change how you see the world. The last thing you want is someone to find out about your identity. People will now use technology against you. They will go browsing the internet just so they can get as much information about you as possible. There are now programs that will attempt to hide your IP address so there is less chance of people finding out about you. The IP address hider does not work %100 though, there are still many ways to get a persons information through the internet.
Usually, people would like to be around/ hangout with people that have the same or common identities as them. This helps people get along more and makes “hanging out/ chilling” a bit more fun. I mean if you hated basketball, you wouldn’t be hanging out with someone who likes it because then you would get into all kind of arguments with the other person. A very rare amount of people tend to hang out with people who do not have the same identities as them. I guess it’s for the simple fact of enjoying arguments or the fact that they have no one else to hang out with.
Technology over all is affecting people’s everyday lives. Back then kids used to be outside playing with their friends. Now a days kids stay home playing video games with their “e-friends”. The internet is somehow taking over peoples lives. A lot of people now can make a living by just sitting at home on their computers while others are working hard outside to TRY and make a living. Even though technology was made to make our lives a bit easier, I think now it has extended to the point of making it easier and has made human beings simply lazy. The things that people can do now with the computers in 5 minutes are things that couldn’t be accomplished in 5 years back in the old days. Even though technology has its downs, it also has its ups. We would have never known how the Earth looks like if it wasn’t for technology. We would have never known what space looks like if it wasn’t for technology. People would have to walk a lot to get to their destinations. And most importantly, our days would end way quicker because we wouldn’t have been able too see at night. In conclusion, technology has its ups and downs.
